A big welcome to our very new ‘famly’ community of people who, like me, want easy access to fun and interesting activities that the whole family can enjoy. How many of us love exploring new things with our families? Whether it’s taking a pram walk, visiting a naturopath, joining an outdoor fitness group or taking it indoors to an indoor playground, there is always something for everyone and often very close by. But often it’s a challenge to find something new and exciting to do. Sometimes we end up spending hours searching the internet for fun, new or exciting activities to do with the kids when what we want to do most is spend time with them (and get them out of the house). Well the great news is that now we have done the work for you!! The famly app has taken all the guess work out so now all you need to do is open the app and you can physically see all the free and bookable activities that are available either locally or further afield. We would love you to check it out for iOS & Android.
So, you may ask, why did I decide to create the famly app? Well, after having worked in the group buying space for a couple of years, working with heaps of startups and getting married to my wonderful husband, we decided it was time to extend our family. Oh dear, what a shock to the system! Finding the right information was always a struggle and there was the constant dilemma; should I pester my doctors and appear like a crazy lady, or should I just go with the flow and do what I think is good for the time being? Constant questions were in my head; what kind of sport could I still do? What food should I/shouldnt I eat? How can I document my pregnancy journey - should I take photos at home or should I get a photographer? So, like many of you, I reached out to “Dr Google”. Hours of researching on the internet, asking groups on facebook for recommendations, reading reviews etc etc. Yes there were answers but oh how many of them and now the question was who or what was right or wrong?!
Then once my darling girl Finnigan arrived a couple of weeks early, the next set of questions started piling up. Heaps of sleepless nights, sitting up with the baby, researching ideas, activities, what to do with her and for her. We needed a change of scenery but I had never thought about playgrounds or pram-walks in my life before. Before I knew it, I was pregnant again and so there were more questions - what could I do being pregnant whilst still entertaining my toddler? Where could I take my kids that would get them to burn their energy, engage their creativity or just give me a break?! Hours of researching again and again, multiple websites and phone calls, all taking up time that I didn’t have….
I needed an app! The famly idea was born. I "simply” needed to create an app that would show me where I could go based on my needs, likes and location!
Hahahahaha, easy to say - not so easy to do :-) But lucky enough, my good friend Farina and I decided we would give it a go and we started planning famly. And so here we are, 9 months later with the famly app - the earliest version and a skinny version of what is to come. Yes, there were many struggles along the way and I couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of my family; my husband, my kids and my friends. I am so proud of what we have created and ultra excited about what lies ahead for the famly app.
The famly app will make discovering and booking activities for families heaps more fun and I am very happy to say that I don’t need to worry anymore about what to do with my kids. I know that at any age and stage I will be able to find fun, interesting and active things to do at a place near me. These days, I am enjoying spending time with my girls without having the stress of having to spend hours on the internet thinking about the next great thing we can do together.
famly is only young and we would love you to come on this journey with us. We are really hoping that you will visit our website and download the app today. Please test out this skinny version of famly and let us know what you would love to see in the app that will make your days with your kids more fun and simple. We want to make sure that the experience you have with the famly app is the best it can possibly be. Let’s all have fun together!
Happy kids, happy days....
